What this device affects — and what it doesn't.

Devices like this are often marketed as fat-reduction tools. Ours isn't, because we don't think the evidence supports that for an at-home unit.

What it's for

  • The appearance of skin firmness and texture. Red and near-infrared light in this range has been studied for effects on fibroblast activity and collagen density in skin.
  • Temporary reduction in puffiness. The sonic massage head and warmth encourage fluid movement, which can visibly de-puff an area for a few hours.
  • Comfortable, consistent daily use. A 5-minute timer and a 42°C ceiling, so a daily habit is realistic and you're not guessing at dose.
  • Skin on arms, neck, décolletage and jawline. Areas where skin texture changes are common and where a handheld unit can actually reach.

What it is not

  • Not a fat-loss or "spot reduction" device. We've seen this claim made for 635nm light. Targeted fat reduction from an at-home LED unit isn't something we can substantiate, so we don't claim it.
  • Not a replacement for clinical treatments. In-office lasers and RF devices operate at energy levels a consumer handheld can't reach. This is a different, gentler category.
  • Not a substitute for exercise or medical care. Muscle tone comes from resistance training. Loose skin after significant weight loss often doesn't fully resolve without surgery.
  • Not a treatment for any medical condition. It is a cosmetic appearance device, full stop.
How to use it

Five minutes, once a day.

Consistency matters more than session length — there's no benefit to going longer, which is why the timer stops it.

STEP 1

Start on clean, dry skin

Serums and lotions can sit between the device head and your skin. Apply your skincare after the session, not before.

STEP 2

Glide, don't press

Keep the head moving in slow passes with light contact. Pressing harder doesn't increase light delivery — it just warms one spot.

STEP 3

Stop when it stops

The unit shuts off after five minutes per area. Don't restart for a second round on the same spot in one day.

The research, characterized honestly

What the studies actually looked at.

Photobiomodulation has a real research literature. It also gets badly misquoted in marketing, so here's what the work does and doesn't establish.

Supported, with caveats

Red light and collagen density in skin

Controlled trials of red and near-infrared light have reported improvements in collagen density and skin roughness over roughly 12–30 sessions. Sample sizes are typically modest and the devices used are not always comparable to a consumer handheld — so treat the direction as promising and the magnitude as uncertain.

Fibroblast activity in cell culture

In-vitro work shows increased fibroblast proliferation under certain light doses. This is cell-culture research — it explains a plausible mechanism, but a result in a dish is not a result on a person's arm, and we won't present it as one.

Not supported for this device

"635nm light burns fat / reduces inches"

Some clinical studies of low-level light therapy for body contouring exist, but they use high-powered multi-diode clinic systems, supervised protocols, and often report modest, contested results. Extrapolating those to a handheld home unit — and framing it as fat loss without diet change — isn't a claim we can stand behind, so it's not on this page.

Before you ask

Will this get rid of loose skin on my arms?

It may improve how the skin looks and feels in terms of texture and firmness. It will not remove significant loose skin — that's a structural change that light and massage can't deliver, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling. If loose skin after weight loss is your main concern, a consultation with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon will give you a straighter answer about realistic options.

How is MyoGlow different from clinic treatments?

MyoGlow uses the same three technologies that dermatology clinics charge $1,000 to $2,500 per session to deliver. You get the same result at home for a one time cost.

How long until I notice anything?

De-puffing effects are often same-session and temporary. Texture and firmness changes, where they occur, tend to show up over 6 to 12 weeks of daily use. In our trial group, about a third of participants didn't identify a change at all.

Does it burn fat?

No, and we don't claim it does. See the research section above for why we've left that claim off this page even though it's common in this product category.

Will it work if I have very crepey skin?

Yes. The combination of red light, heat and sonic massage directly targets the three causes of crepey skin including collagen loss, elastin breakdown and trapped lymphatic fluid.

Who shouldn't use MyoGlow?

Don't use it over active skin infections, open wounds, or areas with undiagnosed lumps or moles that have changed. Avoid use if you're pregnant, have a photosensitivity condition, take photosensitizing medication (some antibiotics, retinoids and diuretics qualify), or have an implanted electronic device. If you've had a cosmetic procedure, wait until your provider clears you. When in doubt, ask your doctor rather than us.

MyoGlow the light safe for my eyes?

Don't look directly into the LEDs or use it near your eyes. It emits no UV, but bright visible light at close range is still worth not pointing at your retina.

What is the warranty on the device?

Every MyoGlow comes with a 1 year manufacturing warranty and if anything goes wrong we will replace it for free.
